The idea of a "Trauma Response Team" was initiated by the Tacoma Community Police Advisory Committee

Background

At Crisis Trauma Response Team (CTRT), we are dedicated to responding to incidents and assisting those impacted by trauma, guiding them towards the healing process. We also provide a safe space for community members to express their opinions and concerns during challenging times.

The idea of a "Community Trauma Response Team" was initiated by the community itself back in 2015 when a petition was sent to the Tacoma City Council. The Community Police Advisory Committee played a crucial role in leading and persistently advocating for the establishment of this team.

In 2019, the City released a Request for Proposal to identify a service provider capable of responding to a wide range of community traumas, including incidents of violence, natural disasters, and other crisis situations. Although only one respondent came forward, a contract was initiated. However, at the request of the community, the contract was terminated in 2020 without cause, emphasizing our commitment to align with the community's needs and expectations.

In January 2023, the City of Tacoma joined forces with JCW & Associates, the operators of Tacoma Cease Fire, to establish the Crisis Trauma Response Team. This collaborative effort aims to provide a compassionate and supportive response to traumatic incidents within our community.
